Social Media Made Simple: 2020 Blueprint

Social media is ever-changing. The networking platforms’ newsfeed algorithms are constantly shifting. Topic and engagement trends evolve quickly. And because social media platforms are frequently updating their layouts, recommended dimensions for profile, cover and other images can change on a whim… it can be tough for social media marketers to keep up and optimized.

The COVID-19 pandemic has added a new level of engagement for businesses and individuals on social media. Many businesses are increasing their social media marketing and experiencing greater interactions with customers. “Engagements on posts have increased across all industries. People are craving social interaction, on top of being online more, and that is causing them to engage more than they used to.”

Putting your best (social) foot forward is more important than ever. One of the most important things you can do to create a positive lasting impression of your business is making sure your brand is consistent and images look great. One often-overlooked point? Image size.

It can be tricky to figure out the best image size because what looks great in one view may look dismal in another. For example, on Instagram, it is best to post a square 1080 x 1080px image. However, they allow you to post a rectangular landscape picture (1080 x 608px) — which looks fine on the Instagram feed, but not so good on your profile. See?  This picture of our logo (1080 x 608px) looks great when posted, right?

The profile part is fine, but look how it appears when it sits among the other square images in the page grid. The sides of the logo get cut off. While the image still looks fine when someone clicks on it, a best practice is to resize the image to a square shape (1080 by 1080px) so that it looks great everywhere! Sometimes all it takes is a change to your canvas or artboard size, but it requires some planning.

Prospects, partners and potential customers tend to look at social media as a way to check a company’s legitimacy, culture, professionalism, and creativity. And your profile pictures, cover images, and post images are the first things customers and clients will see. To look their best, all of your images need to be sized correctly – in resolution and dimension. If they’re not, you risk looking like you aren’t putting effort into your company or brand.

To make things easy, we’ve created a 2020 Social Media Dimensions Blueprint, with the best image sizes for Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, and Twitter. Bookmark the guide for future reference or download the pdf here! Please enjoy and remember to post responsibly!
