“‘Engage your audience.” We have all heard it a million times, and it can be quite frustrating! I get it, really I do. In order to capture an audience we have to get them talking. But please just tell me how!”
That is the way many B2B marketers feel. Further, B2B companies cannot use social media to post constant sales, discounts, and other incentives, so attracting an audience takes more creativity and innovation. In a previous post, we discussed that it takes 66 days to create a habit – and so you need to spend time and consistently post on your social media outlets.
But, lets back up a step. Before you can post anything, you need to create a strategy that will help you achieve your goal – in this case, to engage your audience. To do this, Jeremy Victor, writer for B2B Bloggers, explains that you need to ask yourself 3 questions:
- Who are your customers?
- What are their interests?
- What do they know?
This is no different than the marketing strategy of old, before social media. We just need to adapt this strategy for the new. If you find the answer to these questions, you will understand your audience – their likes, problems, and values. You will know what they are interested in. You will understand their reading habits. With this information, you can give them content that will be useful to them, from your totally unique point of view, through a method by which they want to hear it. With a plan, engaging your audience will be no frustration at all!
In an upcoming post, learn more about what content to post on Facebook and Twitter.
