Blogging: Why is it Important to Your Company?

As we work with clients to update their websites, one of the main topics of conversation is about  “the blog.” Do I need one? Why should I have one? How should I do it? Blogging remains one of the important content marketing tools for businesses. You may even be thinking “Isn’t blog writing more important for B2C companies? Why should my B2B company commit to writing blogs?”

Vector vs. Raster? How To Choose The Right File Format

Vector vs. Raster? How To Choose The Right File Format

You’ve seen it before. “Fuzzy” looking edges, logos that have been distorted and stretched in a Word document or PowerPoint, blurry images. These are telltale signs of a problem we encounter often . . .  vector vs. raster confusion. As an art director and designer, one of the most common problems that I run into when working with other people’s files (especially logos) is that the files are not optimized for their specific use. And, yes, it can be confusing!  So we wanted to use this blog post as an opportunity to help educate readers on the differences between the most used file formats and when to use them. Using the right type of image file, you can make sure your audience views crisp, clean and beautiful looking materials.

"LUV" to Inspire Thoughts of Sunshine

"LUV" to Inspire Thoughts of Sunshine

Welcome to another day of yucky weather! It is below freezing again and to be honest I am truly ready for spring. I really can’t complain compared to all those people in Boston but I feel like this winter is never-ending. We are supposed to get freezing rain again later today and then are in for more snow tomorrow night. Ho Hum! The cabin fever is starting to set in for many of us around this office so when I was looking for some ideas for my blog post this morning and came across a follow up for Southwest’s rebrand on the blog “Brand New,” I felt a glimmer of hope in what seems to be a dreary and cold world lately. I know you are probably thinking why, but the idea of flying somewhere warm and sunny made me smile. I won’t really be going anywhere for a couple more months but just the thought made dealing with these last couple days of nasty weather seem almost bearable. So I thought I would share the details on Southwest’s rebranding and maybe it will inspire some thoughts of warm sunshine.

Is Blogging Really Necessary?

Is Blogging Really Necessary?

What are your goals?

Over the past few months we have been updating a bunch of our client websites to WordPress and with that has come the synonymous question of whether or not they “need” to have a blog on their site. The answer depends on a few key elements: The goals you have for your website, the size of your current audience, your current domain rank, if others sites with a high domain rank are regularly linking to your site and whether your website is regularly putting out fresh content in other ways. If the end doesn’t justify the means, spending time on blogging may not be for you. However, if your company is putting time, energy and money into a new website, it could all be for nothing without a blog. It all depends on your goals.

Breaking News: Security Breach

It seems like every time I turn on the news there is a headline such as “Twitter Hack Breaches Thousands of Accounts” or “Security Breach Exposes 4.2M credit, Debit Cards.” With all these major consumer hackings lately, security has become a big tech topic in our everyday lives. According to a recently released Harris poll, three of five US adults who are online say they feel vulnerable to being hacked. I think the reason is that most people aren’t sure of the best way to keep their information and websites safe from this type of activity.

The Ultimate Cheat Sheet on File Formats

The Ultimate Cheat Sheet on File Formats

As a designer, I am constantly asking clients for images to help me better promote their brand. Whether it be their logo or photos of their staff and/or events, it’s not at all unusual that I receive images that are unuseable, and when I try to explain why, clients often seem stunned or confused. After all, the images are digital, so can’t they just be converted? Often, the answer is no, they can’t. File formats exist to serve different circumstances for use, which by nature, makes them not right for all uses and circumstances. I hope the following “cheat sheet” helps to clear up some of the confusion.
